[Dermatory] Azulene Hypoallergenic Cica Cream

29 oct 2018

Good day, everyone!

For today, finally could finish this review that should have ended on Friday, but for parental obligations issues (parents meetingat school) couldn't get the time.

I have previously given my opinion on the gauze mask and gauze pads of the same Azulene line from Dermatory brand, and now it's time to review this cream that I'm almost finishing, and that I brought to compare with other moisturizers and especially with the Klairs Midnight Blue cream.
So, let's see how it worked!

This cream packaging has the same aesthetic as the two products mentioned above, so I won't hit you  again with the same (I love it haha). The important thing about these packages is that as Clio Club is a company that has been globalizing and Dermatory is part of this group, it includes important information in english, in addition to korean. Then, we have a package with description, mode of use, cautions, ingredients list and also manufacturing date, aswell the PAO symbol.

The system for opening the box is a little more complicated than usual and that is because the packaging comes with a seal that guarantees that the packaging hasn't been opened, and it's not possible to open it in any other way. Inside the cardboard accessory comes the cream tube, which is lavender in color with a white lid. The tube contains 50 ml of product, has the manufacturing date engraved on the upper back side, in addition to the expiration symbol after opening that also takes in the box and space to put the opening date of the product (although using it day and night should last app.2-3 months).

The tube dispenser is a simple hole, which is sealed with an aluminum type label.

Ingredientes clave:
Antioxidantes: Centella Asiatica Extract , Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil , Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract , Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit E).
Calmantes: Jojoba Esters, Centella Asiatica Extract , Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract , Beta-Glucan.

By now everyone knows that one of my favorite Korean youtuber and content creators is UNA (Yuna). So don't be surprised that sometimes I want to follow some of UNA's advices, especially about skin (which is its strong point) that is my goal, because it is beautiful, without dark spots and bright, very bright and shiny.

UNA recommended a couple of Dermatory products, which are pads and azulene cream (cream, not gel cream) for a special routine for those times when you have a special event and want to look radiant without risk after trying new things. This is because it's typical that we have a special event, and we think in using the mask that we had stored (and that we had never used before) and the next morning our skin punishes us with a unicorn horned pimple in very visible places.

Claims: Dermatory azulene cream promises to calm and protect sensitive and dry skin that is in a state of low health after environmental stimuli, thanks to its content of Guaiazulene and chamomile extract.

The meaning of the "Cica" word for many was a confusion, while in Korea they told us that it was an abbreviation of Centella Asiatica, in other places it's said it's because the Latin origin Cicatrix word, that means repair of a wound. In any case, this cream gives promises of skin protection against environmental aggressions, such as contamination, or against own stimuli for having used a product that is too strong or sensitive for our skin.

Ingredients: in the ingredient list given at the top you can see them all and thanks to the Incidecoder website analysis (which added new functions) we can see a separation by category.

Key ingredients

Antioxidants: Centella Asiatica Extract, Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit E).
Brightening: Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract
Ingredients similar to those found on the skin: Glycerin, Phytosqualane, Sodium Hyaluronate, Ceramide Np
Soothing: Jojoba Esters, Centella Asiatica Extract, Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract, Beta-Glucan.

In practice, the first ingredients on the list are moisturizing, emollients and some of them are ingredients identical to those produced by the skin, therefore, this is a moisturizing, anti-inflammatory and soothing cream.

Texture and appearance: I expected its texture to be more dense but not, it is very soft, easy to spread and leaves the skin hydrated without oily shine or sticky feeling. Its color is a very clear lavender, it does not have a particular smell or presence of fragrance.

My experience: in this 3 months using it, I've had different experiences in different periods of my skin health. In general it has been positive, but not as much as I expected.

To begin with, the application is very easy, the cream is absorbed very quickly, but its finish is slightly natural, and doesn't leave a very noticeable glow after it's applied (and ultra glow is something I prefer). For its ingredients, at first I thought it might act like Klairs' Midnight blue cream, but in practice it doesn't work like that and it doesn't have the same fast and almost immediate effect on pimples. It can reduce inflammation, but it takes a couple of days to do so.

This is a cream that is rather for the entire face, the ingredients are quite safe, there is no presence of ingredients that could irritate the skin and there are even soothing, anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic ingredients. That should be enough to be safe in any irritated skin, but our skin is such a curious universe, which doesn't always work the same for everyone.

In my case, my skin is not usually sensitive unless it reaches the period, but there are times when due to the cold of the environment, or after having used some x lipstick, my lips are broken badly, and look similar to an eczematous cheilitis, with sensitivity and redness. It's in those moments when my routine must be minimized and I have reliable products that serve in my routine while my skin recovers (one, two days). I thought that this cream, given its absence of allergens and presence of soothing ingredients, would serve me for this purpose, but unfortunately my skin shows me that it's not what it wants, since when applied at that time, it burns and hurts (which doesn't happen with the Ceramidin cream, for example).

In addition to this fact, being less dense than expected, and easily and quickly absorbed, this also results in a shorter duration of skin moisture. Something I notice, comparing this cream versus another more dense like Elizavecca's steam cream or Dr.Jart's Ceramidin, is that the moisture levels  are lower (even with the same routine, only changing the cream). Measurements with Wayskin show me that with this cream I can reach a percentage of 60-70% of moisture in my skin, very low compared to the 80-90% I get with other creams. And in the morning it's similar, of the 60% that I obtain with more dense creams,  I can get a 40-50% moisture level with this azulene crem.

This is a cream that can soothe itching and irritation, which can soothe pimples in a couple of days, but I don't think it can be used in case of rashes in atopic dermatitis or any special sensitivity where you feel your skin burning when applying cosmetics.

In conclusion, it's a cream recommended for combination to normal skin, for its low moisture holding capacity I don't think it can meet the needs of a dry skin. It's suitable to calm irritation or inflammated pimples, but not to apply in cases of dermatitis (especially atopic).

mi rutina de noche no suele tener niveles tan bajos.
my night routine doesn't used to have such low levels.

DERMATORY Hypoallergenic Cica Cream
