18 oct 2018

I like a lot this package  - or the Dermatory packaging in general - because it has this style very look alike to old  Drugstores, that ones that smelled of remedies, that had many glass jars and where everything was spotlessly white.

Dermatory is a new brand from Club Clio conglomerate, and is focused on specific skin care solutions. For now they have two lines, Azulene and Allantoin, in addition to Sunthana that are sunscreens.

The box follows this "Pharmacy" line, with white and blue tones (azulene), and to the delight of those who do not master hangul, contains information in english and korean, with a list of ingredients readable in english, with manufacturing date, expiration date once opened, with instructions and everything very detailed.

When you open the box, you will see that there is a jar and something white in a bag. That thing, is the lid that will prevent the essence content from evaporating or leaking from the jar, please use it. In addition, in that same bag come the plastic tweezers that help to take the pads from the jar.

This bottle also has information on its label and again, the manufacturing date (MFD), but at the base, and there is a very important detail that makes Dermatory (I have also seen it to Dr.G brand on some products), which is that it includes a space so you can write the opening date of the product. Remember to do it.

Inside the jar, are the pads soaked in essence. These have two very different sides, which I will explain later in my experience.

When I tried Petitfee's azulene pads, I was very happy both for its price, amount and its soothing properties, which is the main thing I expect from products that carry this ingredient. But of course, at that time I liked them a lot, I compared them in price and ingredients with this ones from Dermatory brand, but I never imagined that after trying the Dermatory ones, my opinion after the use of these would change to the Dermatory side 😁.

I've been lucky enough to try 3 products from Dermatory's Azulene line thanks to Jolse sponsorship, and without a doubt this pads have been the best one. Not only because they served the purpose I asked for it, but also because they have turned out to be multipurpose, and have even been useful for my family.

Let's go to the details, in order to make the comparison with the other product (yes, I saved a few pads of Petitfeé's azulene pads to be able to review these pads), but if you are interested, you can see a comparison based only on ingredients, on the Skincarisma website, but the ingredient list is lacking of some ingredients so that's why didn't included it this time at ingredient overview.

Presentation: a very large box containing an equally large and white jar, containing 60 double-sided pads (cotton-gauze) soaked in essence. Between the lid and the bottle there is a separating lid that prevents the liquid from dripping and that also serves to store the plastic tweezers included.

Scent: it doesn't have a noticeable aroma, nor is the fragrance included in the ingredient list.

pH level: 5-6

Texture: As mentioned, this pads have two sides. One of them is gauze and is somewhat rough to the touch. The other side is made of cotton / cellulose, and it's very soft. These two sides combined add thickness to the pad and make the essence moisture capacty stay longer over skin.

Ingredients: the ingredients are different from those we saw at petitfeé azulene ingredient list, since there is no presence of Niacinamide or ceramides. But it does have Guaiazuleno within the first ingredients, then, honey, althaea rosea, chamomile, olive, roses extracts, allantoin, hydrolyzed collagen, hyaluronic acid, and caffeine, as well as thickeners, solvents and moisturizers.

The ingredient list is shorter, and focused only on moisturizing the skin, soothing and contributing with regenerating ingredients.

My experience: as told before, when I started using this pads, I was surprised because they are slightly different from those from Petitfeé, both in texture and thickness. In the photographs I cannot capture the difference very well, but in reality it's noticeable and that makes both the difference of textures and thickness, as what you can expect from the pad to do, change with respect to the experience with the pads mentioned above.

Initially, having two different textures, helps when adds a new function, which is to serve as an exfoliant. I've tried it that way and although it's not my favorite, mostly because of the rough and coarse texture of the gauze, it meets this goal well, leaving the skin soft. I must warn that this side is better not to use it on sensitive skin as an exfoliant, you could end up with irritated skin, don't tempt your fate.

Besides the gauze, there's a side with cotton texture, that causes that the time during which the pad remains moist over skin, increases. This helps us both for moisturizing purposes, and for soothing the skin, which is the main objective.

The essence that brings is enough, the pads are very soaked in this somewhat viscous liquid, which closely resembles IsNtree's hyaluronic toner. For a week I was with my skin a little complicated with sensitivity problems caused by a product that scratched my skin a little, then I took advantage of doing a short routine those days and nights, therefore, I used this pads as exfoliating-toner-mask and they worked very well. The calming effect is real (my skin can't tolerate the dermatory cream during this stage) so especially in the area under my eyes (which I felt like burned) I could see that it hydrated well, refreshing and controlling that burning sensation.

I also used it in a week when my lips were complicated by cold, so I used the gauze to exfoliate and then I left the cotton side to moisturize the lips and it worked. When my lips are chapped because of cold they hurt a lot, and my upper lip is so sensitive, it even cracks and burns, that's why I have to modify my routine and go back to those very gentle products (which I always keep in my routine). they are able to do their thing without my skin feeling attacked, and in that category these pads entered.

My family has also used them, my husband has combination to dry skin (which tends to dry out because of his short routine) when he shaves and the razor blade isn't at its optimum, he suffers from sensitivity, irritation and redness, and this pads have helped soothing his skin, while gives moisture too.

My little daughter who has atopic dermatitis, on a couple of occasions showed me her cheek that itched, there was a sector somewhat inflamed and reddish where she had scratched. We put a pad in that sector and after that there was no redness or itching. Being that gentle and soothing on her skin is a big step forward, since despite not being so reactive, it doesn't tolerate some dermathologists recommended lines (although everything korean that I have tried with her has been great).

So in the end, my and my family experience has been totally positive. It's a product that properly hydrates the skin -more than the Petitfee pads-, calms redness and inflammatory situations (pimples, itching), refreshes and soothes the skin at times when it has been exposed to irritation or dryness, the essence is absorbed without leaving that annoying sticky feeling and also, it doesn't contain perfume, which is ideal for people with sensitivity to scents or sensitive skin.

I'm sorry Petitfee, but Dermatory won this battle.
